Home Energy Review Sonoma specializes in quantifying expected energy use and determining cost-effective improvements for your home. We are trained to visually assess how well energy efficiency measures have been installed and perform diagnostic testing on certain building components.
Our Home Energy Review services, including Infrared Scanning, Blower Door Testing and Duct Blasting, help us detect and show where much of your energy gets lost and wasted.
We are a D65 Licensed Energy Conservation Contractor (License #936099).
Blower Door Tests are performed to help determine a home's airtightness and air quality. Once problem areas are identified, air leakage can be remedied, therefore reducing energy consumption and avoiding moisture condensation problems. Reducing energy consumption is good not only for the environment, but lowers fuel bills.
A blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed cracks and openings. The auditors may use a smoke pencil to detect air leaks. These tests determine the air infiltration rate of a building.
Infrared scanning (thermography) is used to detect thermal defects and air leakage in building envelopes. By using infrared video and still cameras to measure surface temperatures we can determine whether or not a building needs insulation, where in the building it should go and if insulation has been installed correctly.
Thermographic scans are also commonly used with a blower door tests. The blower door helps exaggerate air leaking through defects in the building shell. Such air leaks appear as black streaks in the infrared camera's viewfinder.
A Duct Blaster is used to directly pressure test the duct system for air leaks, much the same way a plumber pressure tests water pipes for leaks.
Duct leakage measurements are used to diagnose and demonstrate leakage problems, estimate efficiency losses from duct leakage, and certify the quality of duct system installation.
Home Energy Review Sonoma performs Combustion Gas Analysis, in which we test residential furnaces and appliances for carbon monoxide, Oxygen and stack temperature. We also check combustion efficiency, as well as Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide levels.
